May 30, 2014 10:40 am | Updated 10:40 am IST - TIRUPUR:

Power distribution cables on the Collectorate premises were badly damaged in the heavy rain and wind that lashed the city on Wednesday evening and during the early hours of Thursday.

This broadly affected the functioning of the offices of various departments inside the Collectorate as the officials were unable to use the computers till the power supply was restored in the evening.

Moreover, the natural lightning was not adequate inside the offices as presently Collectorate is functioning from the Regulated Market premises on a makeshift basis with most of the offices situated inside the godowns.

Some of the motorcycles parked on the Collectorate premises were damaged after some branches of the trees fell on them.

In other parts of the city too, electric posts were damaged and power supply was disrupted in the rain on Wednesday evening.

Due to poor drainage, many low lying areas in the city and its immediate suburbs were water-logged even many hours after the rain stopped.
