Coimbatore Corporation will complete the Pilloor Phase II scheme by December this year. The civic body is implementing the drinking water project at Rs. 113.74 crore to supply around 120 million litres a day.
Sources in the civic body said they had to suffer a temporary set back about two months ago. Increased inflow into the dam because of rains led to inundation of the collection well.
The Corporation with help from the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) is digging the 29 m well to collect water for supply. The rains also inundated the 80-metre-long pipeline that is supposed to carry water from the centre of the dam to the well. The Corporation has completed only 15 m of the pipeline work.

The sources say the civic body took nearly a month to pump out the water and also remove the silt that came with it. It has now decided to complete the well first and then the pipeline work.
The work at the well, whose inner diameter is 21 m, involves laying concrete on the floor and also on the sides. The Corporation has now completed only five of the 29 m on the sides.
The Corporation was supposed to have completed the work by June this year.

The civic body then revised the deadline to September as labour shortage and increase in sand prices affected the work.
The Corporation will pump raw water from the well, convey it through the main pipeline to the treatment plant and then supply the treated water by storing it in various reservoirs and over-head tanks in the city.
The civic body is implementing the work with funds from the Central and State governments under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
