PDS functioning in the State Is the best, says Minister

Opens fair price shops, distributes free home appliances to beneficiaries

The public distribution system (PDS) functioning in the State is the best, Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development. K.P. Munusamy said here on Sunday.

Inaugurating a full-time fair price shop at Venkatapuram, near Krishnagiri, and part-time fair price shops at Thammagoundanur and Kattuseemanur villages near Bargur, and distributing free home appliances at Marichettihalli village, near Bargur, Mr. Munusamy said that the Government was giving top priority for PDS in the State.

As a result of which, shops were being bifurcated for the benefit of the PDS consumers to procure essential item without any difficulty and travel more distance.

A part-time ration shop at Venkatapuram village was upgraded as full-time ration shop with 1,022 ration cards, hence, the people could draw essentials on all days of a week instead of three days in a week.

Mr. Munusamy lauded the district administration for providing training programmes for salesmen of ration shops.

Residents, especially women from Thammagoundanur village, urged the Minister to take steps to lay a BT Road. Immediately, the Minister discussed the issu with the local MLA K.E. Krishnamoorthy and Collector C.N. Maheshwaran and announced that one km link road would be laid a BT Road within a month's time.

Later, Mr. Munusamy distributed free home appliances to 799 beneficiaries at Marrichettihalli village near Bargur costing Rs. 39 lakh.

Community certificates

On this occasion, Mr. Munusamy also distributed community certificates to 103 tribal students, 12 fans and 1000 mats to the Backwards Class Hostel in Bargur.

Mr. C.N. Maheshwaran presided over the function. C. Prakasam, District Revenue Officer, Mr. K.E. Krishnamoorthy, K. Ashok Kumar, Chairman, District Panchayat, delivered felicitation address. A. Krishnamoorthy, Joint Director, Cooperative Societies, welcomed the gathering. P. Sundarraja, Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies, proposed vote of thanks.
