Parents under the ‘Amrita Vidyalaya Manavar Nala Petrorgal Podhunalasangam’ banner on Monday petitioned the district administration seeking action against Amrita Vidyalaya, for violating a court order.
They complained that the school management had failed students whose parents had paid only the government-determined fee and not the fee the management demanded.
The school management had refused admission for the children of those parents who had paid the government-determined fee.

This was in violation of the order of the Madras High Court in W.P. No. 14116 of 2013, in which the Court had said that the sixth respondent – the correspondent, Amrita Vidyalayam – was restrained from cancelling admission of students under the pretext that they had not paid the fee demanded by the institution over and above the fee prescribed by the Statutory Committee.
Citing the order, the parents asked the District Collector to act against the school.
Lisieux Parents and Students Welfare Association submitted a petition to the District Collector alleging that the Lisieux Matriculation Higher Secondary School had collected fee for the 2013-14 academic year in excess of the fee determination committee. They had complained against the school to the committee, which asked the school to not collect fee in excess of what it had prescribed.

But the school failed to honour the direction. They sought the District Collector’s intervention in the matter.
Joining them were parents of students who had studied in Gopal Naidu Nursery and Primary School.
They wanted the District Collector to ensure that the Gopal Naidu Higher Secondary School did not deny admission to three students who had studied in the School management’s sister institution, a nursery and primary school.
They cited the proceedings of the Chief Education Officer in this regard.
After learning about the parents petitioning the District Collector, Chief Education Officer A. Gnanagowri met the parents.Later, Ms. Gnanagowri told The Hindu that while two schools had agreed to consider the parents’ complaints on a case-by-case basis, the matter regarding Amrita Vidyalaya would be dealt with on Tuesday.
Protest in Tirupur
Muthu Kumar, a resident of Samalapuram, began a sit-in protest in front of the office of Chief Educational Officer here on Monday evening.
He claimed that a private school near Samalapuram had been denying admission to his four-year-old daughter.
He refused to move out despite requests from police and revenue officials.
