Outfits urge Government to act against DK

Members of the Indu Makkal Katchi, Tamilnadu Brahmanar Sangam and Thenindiya Thirukoil Archakargal Paripalana Sabai were at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Wednesday morning urging the State Government to ban the Dravidar Kazhagam and allied parties for attacking Hindu priests in Chennai and also hurting Hindu sentiments by conducting ‘thali removal’ and beef eating programmes.

Petition submitted

In a petition submitted to the district administration to be forwarded to the Government, the petitioners said that there had been a growing assault on Tamil culture and tradition from the Dravidar Kazhagam and allied outfits and that had led to a few persons assaulting a priest by cutting his sacred thread (poonal) and tuft of hair. There was a similar assault on another priest in West Mambalam as well.

A few days ago, the DK conducted a programme to remove ‘thali’ and also eat beef, both of which were considered sacred by the Hindus.

In the interest of preserving social harmony, the State Government should act against the DK and its allied outfits by banning them, the petitioners demanded and sought direct intervention by the Chief Minister in the issue.
