No water for two months

A large number of residents from Abdul Kalam Nagar under Vallipuram panchayat came to meet District Collector and other senior officials during the grievances redress meeting at Collectorate on Monday as they had reportedly been confronted with miserable living conditions. In the representation submitted to the district administration, they said that drinking water was not supplied to them for about two months.

“Adding to the woes, borewells in the area have gone dry. We are now buying water supplied in tanker lorries to meet our daily needs by paying exorbitant rates,” A. Kalyanasundaram, one of the petitioners, told The Hindu .

Another major grievance aired by them was the low voltage in the electricity supply for the last many months.

According to them, the Tangedco officials did not pay adequate attention to rectify the defect despite the issue been taken to their notice on numerous occasions.

Pathetic conditions of the road and poor bus connectivity were some other problems that found a place in the petition submitted by the residents.

“Autorickshaw drivers are refusing to come to our area because of the bad roads,” Mohammed Meeran, a resident, said.

The residents of Rajiv Nagar and Indira Nagar, situated alongside Tirupur-Dharapuram highway, met the Collector with a demand to provide adequate space for smooth passage of people while constructing the compound wall for the Industrial Training Institute situated in the area.

The people from these localities, a couple of days back, had even resorted to agitation after the authorities tried to build the wall without adequate space for them to travel to the main road.
