An aged man from Coonoor on Monday tried in vain to get the attention of District Collector when he arrives to attend the weekly grievances redress meeting at the Collectorate here, by sitting at the entrance of the building.

The District Collector, P. Sankar, however, could not notice him, as there was a huge crowd waiting.

Later, officials took R. Velu (62), a footwear mender at Kil Chathram, to the Collector to submit a petition.

He said that he was living in a dilapidated house, along with wife, for the last 30 years but no title deed had been given to him. Several petitions submitted to various officials all these years had gone in vain, he said. He said that the Collector had instructed Social Welfare Department officials to shift him to a home of the aged.

He would take a decision on the offer after consulting wife, Mr. Velu said.
