Any attempt at ‘moral policing' by individuals or groups on Valentine's Day will be dealt with severely, the police have said.
Security has been strengthened at cinemas, parks, malls, botanical garden, and other places of interests where people are likely to gather in large number on the occasion.
The police, however, said couples should strive to maintain decency and decorum at public places. The police are duty-bound to deal with those behaving in objectionable manner and at the same time no one would be allowed to take law into their hands in the name of preserving culture and tradition, officials have said. The police have denied permission to Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam and Dalit Viduthalai Katchi to take out demonstrations in support of love marriages and inter-caste marriages. Another request from Tamil Nadu Students Association for a demonstration to demand an end to honour killings too has been denied.

The police have given permission to an event organised by a welfare association of those who had entered into inter-caste marriages to mark the 12th anniversary of the association at the Handloom Exhibition Grounds on Dr. Nanjappa Road at 6 p.m.
