The Nature Conservation Society (NCS) has resolved to write to the Prime Minister, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and the Union Minister for Environment and Forests for setting up a Wildlife Research Institute at Mettupalayam.

NCS president N.I. Jalaludeen and secretary C.V.A. Jaleel suggested that the vast extent of land with the Forest College at Mettupalayam could be used for setting up the Institute on the lines of the one in Dehradun.

They said that given the rich flora and fauna in Western Ghats, researchers throng this part of the country and it would be ideal to have a research centre here.

It would also help in evolving measures to combat the increasing human-animal conflict.

Save sparrows

In a bid to contribute their mite for saving sparrows, NCS decided to sponsor feeder boxes to houses. NCS also resolved to mobilise public support for planting saplings to compensate the number of trees axed in the recent times for the sake of development works.
