National award for teacher

Karuppannan.

Karuppannan, a retired headmaster of Gandhi Centenary Memorial Middle School, Varadharajapuram, here has won the national award 2011 for teachers instituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. He won the award for his effort to teach Gandhian philosophy, moral values and thoughts on nature conservation to students while maintaining zero drop-out rates in school.

Mr. Karuppannan is the only recipient of the award from Coimbatore and one of the 22 teachers selected from Tamil Nadu. The award ceremony will be held in New Delhi on Teacher’s Day (September 5). Mr. Karupannan hails from Kariyampatty village in Dindigul district.
