More than 100 members of the Nam Tamilar Katchi entered the defence area to stage a protest just outside the Defence Staff Services College in Wellington on Sunday. They wanted the DSSC to send back the two Sri Lankan Army officers.

According to sources, the protestors, who initially sought permission to stage a protest in Coonoor, hoodwinked the police, and instead went to the Supply Depot entrance to reach the defence area to protest.

The sources said that the place from where the protestors raised slogans, burnt Sri Lankan flag and argued with the police, who arrived late, was within 300 m from the DSSC. The police were waiting for the protestors at the Sam Maneckshaw Bridge, which was one-and-km from the DSSC entrance. But the protestors entered the Supply Depot to get close to the defence establishment.

The police went chasing and managed to contain the protestors just outside the DSSC, the sources said and added that a little later the police removed 150 persons, including four women.
