Motorist knocked down to death

R. Janarthanan (57) of Pattanam near Ondipudur died on Saturday after he was knocked down from his motorcycle by a crane on the Nagammanaickenpalayam to Pattanam Road.

The police said that crane operator R. Vaiyapuri (24), of Mettur in Salem, was reportedly speeding and had hit the bike from behind. P. Marudhachalam (42) of Pattanam, who was riding pillion, escaped with injuries.

Man ends life

Aggrieved over the death of his elder brother, D. Ramasamy (53), a daily wager of Athupollachi, reportedly ended his life by hanging on Saturday. The Pollachi Taluk Police said that Ramasamy’s brother D. Murugan died due to cardiac arrest on Friday.

Land promoter arrested

Bazaar Police arrested T. Santhoshkumar (35), a land promoter of Thoppampatti, on Saturday for allegedly threatening his customer. The police said that A. Ashiq Sheriff (31) of Ukkadam booked a site promoted by Santhoshkumar and paid an advance of Rs. 25,000. Inquiries revealed that the promoter delayed registration in the customer’s name and had threatened Ashiq Sheriff when the two met near Prakasam Bus Stop on Oppanakara Street here on Saturday.
