Merchants’ associations send relief to Wayanad

To be distributed to victims with dt. administration’s help

Relief materials being boarded onto a truck to be delivered to flood victims in Wayanad in Kerala on Monday.

Merchants from Gudalur and Pandalur taluks pitched in with around 14 tonnes of food and supplies, in an effort to assist the flood victims at Wayanad in Kerala.

The Gudalur and Pandalur taluks Merchants’ Association collected relief materials from all the stores, who are part of their association, including essential items such as rice, sugar, coffee, pulses, stoves, matchsticks, biscuits and even clothes, which will be taken to Kalpetta from where they will be distributed to the victims with the help of the district administration there.

R. Krishna Prathap, president of the Gudalur Merchants’ Association, said that the relief items would be delivered in two trucks, which left from Gudalur on Monday morning.

A. J. Thomas, president of the Gudalur and Pandalur taluks Merchants’ Association, said that people worked through the night and during the morning, despite heavy rain in Gudalur town.

“We will continue to collect and send relief materials whenever we can to the affected people and call on others too to extend a helping hand to the people of Kerala,” said Mr. Thomas.
