All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam councillor in the Coimbatore Corporation and Town Planning Committee chairman K.N. Senthil Kumar took over the role of the Opposition in the Council when he charged the Corporation administration with not respecting him and failing to convene the Committee meeting in the last three years.

Conduct of meeting

Soon after the AIADMK councillors led by the Mayor completed praising their party leader Jayalalithaa for assuming office as Chief Minister, Mr. Kumar was up on his feet saying that the Corporation administration was sabotaging the conduct of the Committee meeting. It was the only standing committee that was not convened in the past three years.

Though he had submitted several letters reminding the officials as well as the political leadership there was very little relief.

He saw a design in not convening the Committee and keeping him out. If this continued, he would not hesitate to take up the issue with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, he cautioned and sought reasons why the important standing committee with regard to town planning was not held.

The Mayor shot back asking what Mr. Senthil Kumar was doing all these years. Why was it that he was raising the issue now?

This led to fiery exchanges between the two which resulted in the Mayor asking Mr. Senthil if he could approach officials and him to curry favours and get things done, why could not he do the same for convening the Committee meeting.

Mr. Rajkumar went to add that this was not for the forum to discuss the issue as this was an urgent meeting where only subjects tabled could be taken up for discussion.

Senior AIADMK councillors rushed to Mr. Senthil Kumar, pacified and made him take his seat.
