Marginal increase in pass percentage in Coimbatore

Immediately after the results of higher secondary examinations were out, parents thronged the Avinashilingam University in Coimbatore on Friday to collect application forms for degree courses.

Coimbatore saw a marginal increase in the number of students who had cleared the higher secondary examinations this year. The pass percentage this year is 95.83. Last year it was 94.15.

As in the past, the number of girls who cleared the examination was much more than boys - 97.40 per cent of the girls passed the examinations, and 93.86 per cent of the boys.

As many as 13 of the 81 government-run schools and 147 of the 346 private schools saw all the students clear the examination. Schools that had enjoy cent 100 per cent pass included one Coimbatore Corporation school, 14 aided schools, and one Social Welfare Department school.

The number of schools with 100 per cent result this year is also much better than last two years - 147 schools enjoy the distinction this year of all their students clearing the examination; in 2016 it was 132 schools and the year before it was 134.

The Coimbatore Education District saw a better result of 94.84 per cent than the Pollachi Education Department’s 94.15 per cent.

The number of students who scored over 1,100 out of 1,200 in the district was 3,941, students who scored between 1,001 and 1,100 was 6,658, students who scored between 901 and 1,000 was 7,007, students who scored between 801 and 900 was 6,947, students who scored between 701 and 800 was 5,897 and the number of students who scored less than 700 was 7,501.

This year, the district saw 1,164 commerce students scoring full marks, and 516 failed in the subject. Only two students scored full marks in biology. Five students scored full marks in physics, six in statistics, 204 in Computer Science, and 226 in mathematics.

The School Education Department did not announce the district topper or subject-wise toppers.
