Marginal dip in pass percentage

Coimbatore district recorded a marginal dip in pass percentage in the Higher Secondary examination this year. The results announced by District Collector Archana Patnaik here on Tuesday showed that 93.41 per cent of the 35,553 students who took the examination in March this year had passed.

Last year, 94.35 per cent students had cleared the examination.

As in previous years, this time too girls outdid the boys in that 96.06 per cent girls had cleared the exam while only 91.78 per cent boys had cleared the exam. Between the two education districts in Coimbatore – the Coimbatore education district and Pollachi education district, the former had a higher score at 94.84 per cent. Pollachi had recorded 90.88 per cent.

Last year too, Coimbatore had a higher pass percentage.

The first rank in the district went to Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School student S. Vetriselvan. He scored 1,188 out of 1,200 with centum in chemistry and mathematics. He had missed the maximum by a mark in physics and computer science.

The district second rank went to N. Siva Nandhini of PKD Matriculation Higher Secondary School. She scored 1,187 out of 1,200 with centum in accountancy and a mark short of the maximum in economics.

The district third rank went to Vidya Nethraa Matriculation Higher Secondary School student M. Aathmika who had secured 1,186 out of 1,200 with centum in mathematics and a mark short of the maximum in chemistry.

The students met the Collector Ms. Patnaik, who wished them well. The district administration recognised the students as they chosen Tamil as their first language.

The number of centum this year was more in accountancy – 506 students in the district had scored the maximum. Last year too the number of centum was high in accountancy – 603 students. Not one student had scored centum in physics this year.

This year six government schools enjoyed 100 per cent pass in that all the school students who appeared for the exam cleared it.

Last year it was five. A Corporation school, eight aided schools, 114 Matriculation schools also enjoyed 100 per cent pass.
