Marathon creates awareness on improving green cover

Over 1,300 people from all walks of life take part

Run for a cause: Participants of “Go Green Kovaipudur” marathon held in the city on Sunday.

Over 1,300 people from all walks of life participated in the marathon “Go Green Kovaipudur” on Sunday to create awareness on improving green cover.

The run was held under four categories– 5 km, 10 km, 21 km and 42 km.

According to the organisers, the marathon was held to bring back the lost glory of Kovaipudur by improving its green cover.

The youngest participant was 8 years old and the oldest was 88 years.

Runners from Kenya participated in half and full marathon and won prizes.

All the participants were given saplings with an advise that they should ensure that the saplings grow into trees.

V. Arumuga Pandi of DMK flagged off the half marathon (21 km and 10 km) categories. The Kovaipudur ground was the starting and ending point for all categories.

Cash prize

A total amount of ₹1.80 lakh was given away as cash prize to the winners under all the categories.

Former State Labour Minister T.M. Anbarasan, CEO of Nehru Group of Institutions P. Krishnakumar, Arumuga Pandi and representatives from Orchids and Rakindo participated in the valedictory function.
