Man suspected to be Maoist creates flutter

May 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The movement of a man in a remote hamlet near Manjoor in a suspicious manner created a flutter among villagers on Friday afternoon. Suspecting he could be a Maoist, the villagers caught him after an hour’s chase and handed him to the police. B. Manivannan (43) of Attumannu who was among the villagers who chased the man said that the stranger was aged about 30 and was roaming in the hamlet. The stranger started running when the villagers enquired about his identity .

They searched for about two km in the forest and found him at Doddacombai. The recent arrest of Maoist suspects in Coimbatore and tension prevailing in Kerala over the attacks by Maoists in Palakkad made the villagers suspect that he was a Maoist.

Police ,however, doubt that the man is an extremist. He was quizzed till the late hours.
