Man slits throat as police ‘refuse’ to accept plaint

A 45-year-old man attempted to kill himself by slitting his throat and vein in the left hand on Tuesday as police allegedly refused to accept his complaint. A resident of Kempatti Colony who is into confectionery business on Raja Street, he was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) after the incident.

The man approached the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Coimbatore City Police with a complaint that his wife’s relatives cheated him. He alleged that they tactfully obtained documents of his property with which they obtained loan of ₹ 30 lakh from a private bank. He alleged that the CCB officials refused to accept his complaint, and instead treated him like an accused.

Depressed over this, the man slit his throat and vein on the CCB office premises. He was initially taken to a private hospital and later to the CMCH. His condition was stable, police said and also denied his allegations.

Three held

Saravanampatti police on Tuesday arrested three persons on charges of transporting banned tobacco products worth around ₹ 9 lakh.
