Additional District Judge N. Seshasayee convicted C. Suresh (21) of P.N. Pudur to undergo life sentence for culpable homicide not amounting to murder of his brother.
The prosecution case is that Sampath (33) had insisted his brother Suresh to secure a job, which the latter refused. Angered by Sampath's words, Suresh, on November 24, 2009 had poured kerosene on Sampath and set him on fire. Sampath was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital with burns, and he died three days later. The Saibaba Colony police registered a case under Section 304 (1) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested Suresh. The judge also slapped a fine of Rs. 10,000.

The Sulur police are on the lookout for a man who had allegedly cheated a 30-year-old man by promising of money doubling. M.P. Prithivirajan (30) of Madurai in his complaint said that he was running a medical shop in the city. He said he received an SMS from an unknown number promising of money doubling. He contacted the mobile number and got in touch with Chandran, who claimed to have successfully carried out many transactions of money doubling. Chandran agreed to double Prithivirajan's money and received Rs. 15,50,500. But later Prithivirajan could not contact Chandran and realised that he was cheated. The police have registered a case.
Gamblers held
The Madukkarai police on Sunday arrested three persons for involving in gambling. The police arrested them and seized Rs. 18,000.
