The police on Monday arrested Murugesan (34), a sanitary worker at a government hospital, for allegedly murdering M. Valli (29), who worked as a sanitary worker in the hospital.
The police said that the woman’s body was recovered from a trench near a college on the Thudiyalur-Kanuvai Road.
Inquiries revealed that the two were living together. Murugesan is suspected to have beaten her to death on Sunday night. The reason behind the murder is under investigation, the police added.

R. Karthikeyan (14) of R.G. Nagar on the Sungam By Pass Road reportedly drowned in the Kurichi Tank on Monday evening.
He is a Standard VIII student at a government aided school at Town Hall. The police said that after school hours, the boy went to the tank with a few of friends.

It is learnt that he got trapped in the clay in the tank. People of the locality who heard his friends cry for help rushed to the spot and rescued him.
He died on way to a hospital.
