A 55-year-old man, who was under treatment for renal failure at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and reportedly sent out, is back at the hospital after public intervention.
The Hospital sources have, however, clarified that it did not throw out the patient as portrayed but only discharged him as per rules.
The issue relates to the residents of Rathinapuri Thair Itteri spotting Dheeraj Singh, 55, and his wife Lakshmi, 48, at a causeway there on Saturday morning. They alerted P. Mahendran of Eera Nenjam, an NGO.

Mr. Mahendran, who went to the spot, claimed that the woman complained to him that the doctors at the hospital had asked them to leave the place on Friday evening, after treatment for nearly three weeks. This was despite the woman’s protest.
He also said that the couple, natives of Andhra Pradesh, were at the hospital after being referred by doctors at the Government Hospital in Kangayam. They were working there at a quarry for five years.
Sources at the CMCH said that after 20 days of treatment, there was nothing much the doctors could do as Dheeraj Singh’s both kidneys had failed. Mr. Mahendran said that after intervention from the public and media, he had taken the man and his wife to the CMCH, where they would stay until he found them a home.
