Man arrested for raping minor girl

Personnel of All Women Police Station, Perur, have arrested a 43-year-old man on charges of raping a 15-year-old girl in 2017.

R. Subramaniam, a resident of Baba Street near Venkatapuram, was arrested based on the complaint filed by the girl. The accused had been into an extramarital affair with the girl’s mother after she was separated from her husband, three years ago.

The accused used to visit the woman, who was staying with her mother at Vedapatty. As per the complaint given by the girl, the accused raped her on June 20, 2017 when she was asleep in her room.

Though the girl complained to her mother, she attempted to settle the issue. The girl returned to her father earlier this year and told him about the ordeal recently.

The accused, who was arrested under Sections 3 a (Penetrative sexual assault) and 4 (Punishment for penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. was remanded in judicial custody.

The First Additional District Court on Wednesday awarded life term to a 29-year-old man, who hacked a 23-year-old woman to death in 2016 after she did not reciprocate to his love.

Judge M. Gunasekaran sentenced Shakeer (31), of Palakkad, to undergo life term and a fine of ₹1,000 for murdering S. Dhanya (23). Special public prosecutor V.V. Nagaraj said that the court also awarded 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000 for trespassing into the girl’s house to commit the murder and one year imprisonment for attempting to commit suicide. Shakeer had attempted to end his life after the murder.

Suspended

The Prisons Department on Wednesday placed the prison constable attached to Coonoor Sub-Jail, who was booked for allegedly assaulting and forcing his wife for abortion, under suspension pending inquiry.
