‘Involve in efforts for protecting environment'

Bharathiar University Vice-Chancellor C. Swaminathan has called upon the younger generation to contribute their efforts for the protection and conservation of the environment.

Delivering the Graduation Day address at the Nandha College of Arts and Science here on Sunday, he asked the educational institutions to help students improve their knowledge on the environment. The climate change has become the biggest concern for all the countries in the world.

The rapid industrialisation and urbanisation around the world polluted environment to a great extent.

The student community should be aware of these environmental issues and contribute in all possible ways for the protection of Mother Nature. Such efforts would help ensure a safe living for the future generations, he said.

Mr. Swaminathan also appealed to the students to spread awareness among people on global warming and other environment related issues.

Challenges

Advising the students to face challenges with confidence, he said that students could find a lot of opportunities in today's world for their growth. “With perseverance and hard work, we can emerge successful,” he said.

Highlighting the tremendous progress made by the country in different fields, Mr. Swaminathan said that the Indian talent was respected in all the parts of the world. “A significant number of engineers and scientists working in leading organisations like NASA are from India. If we have to sustain this type of human development, we should enhance access to higher education,” he said.

Later, he presented degree certificates to over 360 students. College Chairman V. Shanmugan presided. Principal S. Palaniappan read the annual report.
