At the Lok Adalat held in Tirupur on Saturday, ₹ 1 crore compensation was given to a factory manager K. Jayaprakash Boopathy of Tirupur who lost vision in both eyes in a road accident.
According to District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA), Mr. Jayaprakash from Amarjothi Garden on Kangeyan Road in Tirupur had lost his vision in both eyes after his motorbike hit another bike coming in the opposite direction.
After the first aid in a local hospital, Mr. Jayaprakash was shifted to a hospital in Coimbatore for treatment. He filed a petition at the Second Additional District Court in Tirupur.

The case came up for hearing in 2016.
Finally, the litigants Jayaprakash and the insurance company compromised for a final settlement of ₹1 crore as compensation.
The cheque was handed over to Mr. Jayaprakash by Principal District and Sessions Judge S. Alli, sources in DLSA said.

A total number of 5,069 cases, including 1,096 pre-litigation cases, were taken at the Lok Adalat. Out of these 1,206 cases, including 34 pre-litigation cases, were settled at the adalat.
Of the 770 pending Criminal Compoundable cases, 548 were and ₹ 49,31,850 were settled, under Negotiable Instruments Act 11 out of 457 were settled for an amount of ₹60,02,332 and 185 out of 744 Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases were settled with a compensation amount of ₹7,70,47,512. A total compensation amount of ₹19.80 crore was settled at the 17 benches of Lok Adalat.
COIMBATORE
In Coimbatore, a total of 1,708 cases and a sum of ₹16.43 crore were settled in the Lok Adalat conducted at the Combined Court Complex on Saturday.
As many as 6,503 cases – transport disputes, petty crimes, cheque fraud, motor vehicle accidents, civil disputes, and labour disputes - were considered at the adalat. The adalat was held under the supervision of Principal District and Sessions Judge and the Chairman of DLSA R. Sakthivel and DLSA secretary and sub-judge R. Rajeswari.
In one of the cases settled, judge Mr. Sakthivel directed Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer, Coimbatore, to pay ₹2.05 crore to litigants Balakrishnan and Karthik in a land grabbing case, which was pending before the second additional district court last 25 year.
UDHAGAMANDALAM
The Lok Adalat in the Nilgirs was held under the supervision of P. Vadamalai, District Judge-cum-Chief Judicial Magistrate, Udhagamandalam. Of the total number of 1,703 cases considered, 375 and a sum of ₹4.58 crore were settled at the adalat. Under the bank loan dispute category alone, 68 cases and a sum of ₹25.05 lakh were settled when 538 cases were considered.
