Kolu dolls on display at Poompuhar showroom

Dolls made of clay, wood, fabric, and metals on sale till October 20

Wooden dolls, clay doll sets, wall hangings made out of fabric, idols made of metals and many more ranges fill the kolu special exhibition-cum-sale at Poompuhar outlet here.

As many as 12 artisans have displayed hundreds of colourful dolls, gift items, and decorative pieces. The artisans, including seven from Coimbatore, have displayed dolls made of clay, wood, fabric, and metals.

Handmade dolls

This year’s special attraction is handmade wooden dolls from Varanasi and Kondapalli.

Village sets, marriage sets, Ganesha sets, Krishna idols, wooden and fabric wall hangings, Krishna dolls made of fabric, and the traditional clay kolu dolls are some of the products on display.

Painted terracotta lamp shades from West Bengal, candles from Auroville in Puducherry, models of various temples, villages, and apartment buildings made out of paper and cardboards are some of the added attractions at the expo.

The special sale is on till October 20 and the aim is to register sales of ₹ 50 lakh this year.

Last year during Kolu season, the outlet sold dolls for ₹36 lakh, said R. Narendra Bose, manager of the showroom. As many as four more artisans are expected to bring their goods shortly, he added.
