Kamal blames Dravidian parties for not providing basic amenities to people

Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and actor Kamal Haasan has said that both the Dravidian parties have failed to provide even the basic amenities of people like proper drainage and drinking water facilities.

Campaigning for the MNM candidate for the Salem constituency, M. Prabhu Manikandan at Suramangalam, Ammapettai and Omalur here, Mr. Kamal Haasan said that both the Dravidian parties which came to power alternatively hasn’t even bothered to ensure basic amenities like 24 hours drinking water and proper drainage facilities. “Children in rural parts of the district are still forced to defecate in the open and there was not even any proper waste management in the State,” he said.

Mr. Kamal said that the party’s manifesto have promised only things that could be done. “We have not made any false promises in our manifesto. If our candidates fail to fulfil poll promises or if they do not perform according to people’s expectations, their resignations would be sought,” he said.

Referring to a local temple issue which was shut due to clash between two groups, Mr. Kamal said that as a society, we must stand together and it was the responsibility of police and politicians to safeguard it.

Mr. Kamal also took questions from the public at different points. At Omalur, a young woman addressed him as ‘Appa’and said that women are safe in public gatherings of MNM and she hoped that women would be safe in their. Mr. Kamal responded saying that they don’t supply liquor in their public meetings and the party would always be eligible for trust putforth by women.
