Jama-ath seeks release of life term convicts

Coimbatore District Jama-ath has petitioned the Chief Minister seeking the release of more than 60 life-term convicts in the Central Prisons across the State as they had already served more than 13 years and six months in the prison.

In a memorandum, General Secretary of the Jama-ath A. Abdul Jabbar said that remission and release of life-term convicts pertaining to minority community alone was being delayed. The memorandum in this connection was signed by representatives of various minority organisations .The memorandum referring to the Supreme Court commuting the death sentence of the three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case into life-terms. Lauding the Chief Minister for announcing the release of the seven convicts, the Jama-ath wanted the same for 60-odd prisoners from minority communities.
