Hunt on for fraudster in Coimbatore

City Crime Branch police are on the lookout for a Mahesh Gupta who allegedly duped traders and vendors in T.K. Market area in the city by running chits and other finance schemes. The police said that many traders had lodged complaints saying that Gupta, who managed a condiments company, had taken their money but failed to return the investments with interests or the promised sum. Based on the complaints, the City Police Commissioner had constituted a team headed by Assistant Commissioner Chandra Mohan and Inspector Mariamuthu.

Hut gutted

Fire from a fallen lamp gutted a hut in Tiruvalluvar Nagar, near Kanuvai. According to the Thudiyalur police, the incident happened soon after Subramani lit the lamp and left the house with his wife. Based on information, fire tenders from the Coimbatore North Station rushed to the spot. The police have registered a case.

Burglaries in Peelamedu

Burglars who gained entry into a shop selling welding rods in Esso petrol bunk decamped with Rs. 3,000, which the owner Vijayakumar, 40, had left in the table draw. The burglars also struck at the nearby Meenakshi Hardwares shop, a photo studio, and another shop selling oxygen cylinder. Based on complaints, the Peelamedu Police have registered cases.

Worker robbed

Asmath Ali, 21, a worker from Assam, was robbed of Rs. 30,000 he was about to deposit in a bank in Maniakarampalayam. According to the Saravanampatti Police, three persons who trailed him robbed the money by pointing a knife at him. He was a worker at a mill in Udayampalayam.
