With the objective of changing mindsets among heads of schools so that they could keep apace with changing psyche of students, a ‘Steering the masterminds’ programme was organised here on Saturday by Only Success Learning Technologies and The Hindu .
Aim
The basic aim of the programme, head trainer Nirmala Nandakumar says, was to ensure the teachers and school principals have the knowledge to tackle the roots of the problems facing the students rather than chip away at the symptoms alone.

Through a Neuro-Linguistic Programme, says S. Lakshmi Narayanan, director (sales and marketing), Only Success, the teachers would be told how to kindle interest in the subject among students.

Instead of categorising students as having attention deficit disorder, he says the teachers must make the subject interesting enough for the student to pay attention. The school-going age was important this was the period when a child forms his beliefs and values.
Praveen Sherman, director and chief trainer of Only Success, says that at present, principals are not only expected to take care of students but also have a huge administrative burden.
This programme was to help them cope up with both these demanding tasks, he said.
Society
Earlier, M. Krishnan, managing director of Sri Krishna Sweets, said that teachers were vital for the development of any society.
A total of 68 principals and 20 vice-principals from the four districts of Coimbatore, Karur, Salem and Tirupur took part in the event.
At the end the workshop, some of the participants said that it provided them with an insight into various aspects of administration.
