As part of the World Breastfeeding Week which is being observed in the HFM Sait Memorial Hospital here, members from the Inner Wheel Club of Ketti Valley organised a healthy baby contest on Wednesday.

Poojitha Daradahali, president of the club, said that blankets were distributed to more than 100 newborn babies at the hospital, while both new and expecting mothers were given nutrient rich foods and advised about how best to take care of themselves and their children.

A contest to felicitate mothers, who had breast-fed their children, was also organised. “Based on various parameters, such as how many kg of weight the children have gained, and whether their immunisation charts are followed correctly and whether the mothers are breastfeeding their children, we chose the winners of the contest,” said Nethra Subramani, secretary of the club, which has been organising awareness drives on the benefits of breastfeeding throughout the Nilgiris since the beginning of the week.
