Green rally marathon conducted in Coimbatore

The event was organised to mark the World Ozone Day. The aim was to create awareness on the need to protect the Ozone layer.

The Socio-Eco Club of Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology in association with The Hindu and Radio City on Sunday organised the ‘Green Rally Marathon’ to create environment awareness.

A release from Sheelan Thangavelu, Joint Secretary of the college, says that the event was organised to mark the World Ozone Day. The aim was to create awareness on the need to protect the Ozone layer.

The release says that efforts to protect Ozone Layer could be one of the most significant sustainable actions the people today have taken. And this coming at the 25 anniversary of the Montreal Protocol is significant.

The rally started around 8 a.m. from Nehru Stadium with 500 students of the College and 100 students from schools.

The students marched through A.T.T. Colony, Balasundaram Road and reached the Women’s Polytechnic. Along the way they raised slogans on Ozone protection, sapling planting and nature conservation. Mr. Thangavelu flagged off the rally in the presence of the College principal S.K. Sekar.
