Gokulraj murder case: CB-CID seeks action against Swathi

For turning hostile while deposing as prosecution witness

The Crime Branch CID Police on Monday filed a petition in the District and Sessions Court here seeking action against Swathi, friend of V. Gokulraj, Dalit youth of Omalur, whose body was found on a railway track near Pallipalayam, for turning hostile while deposing as prosecution witness.

Gokulraj was murdered allegedly by a group over his love affair with a caste Hindu girl and his body was recovered on June 24, 2015.

The trial in the murder case commenced at the District Court presided by K. H. Elavazhagan, Principal District and Sessions Judge, here on August 30.

Swathi, the victim’s friend, who was with Gokulraj, when he was whisked away allegedly by a group of miscreants, while deposing in the court recently turned hostile by saying that she did not accompany Gokulraj to the temple on the fateful day and she knew nothing about the murder.

Karunanidhi, Public Prosecutor, preferred a petition with the District Judge stating that there was discrepancy in the statement given by Swathi to the CB-CID police and during her deposition as prosecution witness.

Hence he pleaded action against her.

Meanwhile, 11 persons deposed witness in the court on Monday.

The Judge later posted the case to October 22.
