Workers removing the structure put up for a cut out after the completion of the MGR centenary celebration on Avinashi Road in the city on Monday.

Within hours of the completion of the MGR birth centenary celebration here at the VOC Park ground on Sunday, the Coimbatore Corporation began cleaning the premises.

Sources in the health wing of the civic body said they had deployed around 100 workers to clean the ground.

The cleaning operation went well past the midnight and the workers completed the cleaning by 2.30 a.m.

This followed an order from senior Corporation officials, who wanted the VOC Park area to be accessible to the public at the earliest.

Only around 10 % of the waste remained to be cleaned and the workers would do it once the stage and ‘pandal’ was removed.

Meanwhile, arches and hoardings erected for the function was also removed. The removal resulted in traffic snarls at many places, including Avanashi Road on Monday morning.

Corporation sources said they were also monitoring the operation as they wanted the work to be completed at the earliest with minimum inconvenience to the public.
