Four Coimbatore zones do well in property tax collection

Tax collectors to go door-to-door to collect tax

The civic body till recently is doing well in terms of property tax collection compared to the same period last year. Senior officials said that the collection for the current financial year stood at 83 %.

In numbers it translated to collection of Rs. 115.76 crore as against the demand of Rs. 139.44 crore.

As usual, four zones except the Central have done well in tax collection. South Zone alone stood at 74 %. The officials said that they had instructed tax collectors on the ground to go door-to-door to collect tax. If they brought in about Rs. 1 crore a day till the month end, the Corporation would be able to achieve 100 %.

Towards this month end, the Corporation would also present its budget for the 2017-18 financial year.

There would be no major announcements. It would have allocations for the Central and State schemes that are under progress and works that were yet to begin.

Infrastructure

The focus would be on infrastructure creation, the officials said and added that with the likelihood of the local body election being conducted in the near future, there would not be big-bang or eye-catching announcements.

The Corporation would send the budget draft to the office of the Commissioner for Municipal Administration, get it cleared and then present the budget.
