Four succumb to burns in separate incidents

Four persons of the city and its outskirts who suffered burns at separate incidents died on Wednesday.

R. Perumal (75) of Edayarpalayam near Vellore was injured on Monday when he lit camphor in his house to offer prayers and the fire accidentally spread all over the house. He was admitted in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where he died on Wednesday.

M. Sangeetha (17) of Ramalingapuram near Peelamedu, who reportedly doused herself with kerosene and set her ablaze in her house on March 11, died at the CMCH on Wednesday. The Peelamedu police said that the girl took the extreme step after her mother scolded her for her addiction to mobile phone.

P. Nanjammal (70) of Semmedu near Alandurai, who suffered burns on February 14, died at the CMCH on Wednesday. According to the police, her son P. Murugan (40) stated that his mother was preparing food using firewood, when the flames spread on her saree injuring her.

In another incident, P. Sulochana (65) of Pallapalayam near Sulur, who suffered burns while trying to chase honey bees from its comb near her house with fire on February 23, succumbed to injuries at a private hospital where she was treated.
