Four persons have been arrested in connection with the waylaying of two youth from Kerala, and robbing them of Rs. 70 lakh by a gang. Search is on for four more persons.
On July 5, A. Rashid (21) and Riyaz (20) were on their way from Salem to Malapuram in a four-wheeler and were reportedly carrying Rs. 70 lakh. They were waylaid by a gang near Thennampalayam on Coimbatore to Avinashi Road and robbed of money and their car. In connection with the case, N. Abdul Jaleel (26) of Kuniyamuthur, M. Hari Kumar alias Ranjith (29) of Thirumala in Thiruvananthapuram district, S. Ameernath alias Ameer (30) of Kulathara in Kozhikode district and B. Ayub Ansari (25) of Athupalam in Coimbatore were arrested, Superintendent of Police M. Sudhakar said.
Additional Superintendent of Police S. Ramachandran said that the gang operated in two groups. The four persons who have been arrested had arranged for the vehicles that were used for the waylaying. The other four persons from Kerala, who were yet to be nabbed, were the brain behind the crime, he said. “A truck, car and another vehicle used by the accused for waylaying were seized and Rs. 1.26 lakh has been recovered from them.

The arrested were produced in court and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison, police sources added.
