Focus on cases of missing persons

The city police have stepped up focus on resolving cases of missing persons. All the inspectors have been given one week’s time to prepare a profile of nearly 130 such cases in all the 15 police stations in the city limits.

In Coimbatore City Police, South and East police sub-divisions each have 45 cases of missing persons while there are 20 cases of missing persons each in West and Central sub-division.

Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) T. Pravesh Kumar convened a meeting and discussed the investigation process, methodologies and progress achieved in each case.

The effort gains significance in the wake of three persons being arrested recently in connection with the murder of Manivel (47), a businessman, who went missing on April 18, 2010.

The victim had 26 cents of land valued at Rs. 3 crore and the same had been sold to a person after his death through impersonation and forgery.

Mr.Viswanathan had asked the inspectors to prepare a profile of the missing persons especially their age, circumstances under which they went missing and also on whether they had any properties and whether the properties had gone only to their legal heirs. The inspectors had to submit the profiles to the Assistant Commissioners of Police. The investigations would be closely monitored, Mr. Viswanathan said.
