Five from Chhattisgarh among six killed in accident

The car that met with an accident near Palladam in Tirupur district on Saturday.

Six persons, including five of a family from Chhattisgarh, were killed in an accident near Palladam in Tirupur district early on Saturday when the car in which they were travelling collided with a goods carrier.

The victims were from Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh.

They were identified as S. Siddarth Malu (30) and his wife Sandhya Malu (25), Sandhya’s sister Sakshi Lunia (30), her husband Vikas Narendra (32) and their son Pavya Lunia (4). The car driver Mohan (28), of Elanthai in Ooty, also died on the spot.

To attend wedding

According to the police, preliminary inquiry revealed that the victims and parents of the sisters came to Coimbatore by train at 3.30 a.m. on Saturday to attend the wedding of their relative at Ooty.

Five of them began their journey to Kodaikkanal in a car to spend the weekend before the wedding.

The vehicles collided head-on at 4.45 a.m. Locals alerted the police. The bodies were taken to the Palladam Government Hospital, where they were identified by their relatives.

The police said that the van driver suffered a fracture on the leg and was admitted to a private hospital in Coimbatore.

Details of the two other occupants of the van were not known.
