‘Filling vacancies routine administrative affair’

Positions falling vacant in police force and they getting filled up in due course was a routine administrative affair, says A.K. Viswanathan, City Police Commissioner.

There used to be regular migration from Tamil Nadu Special Police battalion to Armed Reserve and personnel from Armed Reserve personnel used to be transferred for filling up vacant posts.

Human resource problems do exist but there had not been a major constraint or fall in quality of policing, even if the personnel are overstretched, says Mr. Viswanathan.

He added that the establishment section of the police department always keeps track of vacancies that arise. Steps were being taken consistently in order to fill up the vacancies, he added.
