Farmers want separate feeders to give power connection to agri lands

Farmers’ Association, which is not affiliated to any political party, has sought separate feeders to provide power service connection to agriculture lands.

According to P. Kandasamy, secretary of the Association, there are complaints of low voltage in many areas, especially in the Coimbatore north Anaikatti feeder. There are several brick kilns in the area and the demand for power is high from these units. Farmers face low voltage issues and are unable to run the motors. “The situation has turned worse now,” he says. There should be separate feeders for agricultural and industrial connections, he said.

The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) should take steps to ensure quality power supply to agricultural connections, according to a resolution passed by the Association at its recent meeting.

An official of Tangedco here said agricultural connections get three phase supply for nearly 15 hours a day now. In any transformer, the load of industries and agriculture in that area is taken into account. A new power house is also coming up in Thadagam. So, there should not be any issue related to quality of power. There is a possibility for complaints if the connection is in a remote area. However, if there are specific issues, these could be brought to the notice of the officials.
