The Tamizhaga Vivasaigal Sangham plans to organise a protest in two weeks against the proposed bypass road from Kangeyampalayam to Mettupalayam.
State president of the sangham M.R. Sivasamy told presspersons here on Tuesday that he was also seeking the support of political parties and a protest would be organised here in 10 to 15 days. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) published the 3A notification last week to acquire land for the project. The public had 21 days time to object to the acquisition and then the NHAI would be able to go ahead with the land acquisition.
It was said that though the State government had given its consent to the project earlier, it had withdrawn the consent recently. The NHAI was going ahead with land acquisition despite that. This was to bypass the State government. They were going ahead based on the consent given initially. Further, after acquiring the land, the NHAI would be able to convince the State government on the location of the toll gate. “If the land is acquired, there is no option but to go ahead with the project,” he said.

The farmers’ body was also considering the option of approaching the court against the project. “But first we will organise a protest. We will seek the support of other organisations and political parties for this,” he said.
The NHAI has proposed the 59.93-km bypass road at Rs. 617 crore. It will involve acquisition of 875 acres.
