Employees of the Commercial Taxes Department staged a demonstration and refrained from attending work for a day, on Wednesday, condemning the alleged harassment and work pressure imposed on them by the two Joint Commissioners of the department here.

District president of the Commercial Taxes Employees Association M. Suresh Babu told newsmen that work pressure was the reason behind the death of the Assistant Commissioner of Perur, Abdul Raheem (57), due to cardiac arrest in his house on Wednesday morning.

“In the last two months, the Joint Commissioners here have transferred about 150 employees. A majority of them were in the lower ranks. Last month, four employees were placed under suspension. We are also harassed with a series of review meetings which affect our routine works,” he added.
