Published - June 07, 2017 11:17 pm IST - Coimbatore

A lone tusker, aged about 15 years, entered a human habitation at Theethipalayam in the small hours of Tuesday. Sources in the Forest Department said the elephant went to a manger, consumed water and then attacked a cattle, which died later in the day due to breathing problem caused by injuries to the ribs.

Following information from the villagers, the sources said the Department moved in with ‘kumki’ Pari and thereafter there was no sign of the elephant. The Department staff, tracking the elephant, had inferred based on indirect evidences that it had moved deep into the forest.

Meanwhile, the Department had stationed kumki elephant Pari in Theethipalayam as a precautionary measure.
