Members of DYFI staging a novel protest in Salem on Saturday.

Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Saturday staged a novel demonstration by covering their body with leaves and branches of plants to condemn both the Centre and the State Government for their failure to solve the grievances of farmers of the state.

The members raised slogans condemning the BJP-led Centre for not coming forward to concede the just demands of farmers of Tamil Nadu who are protesting in New Delhi for the past many days and organising various sorts of agitations to draw the attention of the government. The Centre has turned a blind eye to the problems confronting the farming community of Tamil Nadu and such an attitude deserved severe condemnation, they said.

At the same time, the Centre is evincing keen interest in executing the hydro-carbon project, which will cause much harm to the farming community, in many Pudukottai villages. This only showed that the Centre is not interested in the welfare of the farmers.

They also raised slogans criticising the State government for supporting the Centre and not bringing pressure for solving the problems of the State farmers.

P. Kandasamy, district president of the DYFI, led the demonstration held in front of the head post office near the old bus stand.

N. Praveen Kumar, district secretary of the DYFI, V. Venkatesh, district treasurer, and others spoke highlighting the demands.
