The Dyers Association of Tirupur (DAT) has submitted a memorandum to the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) requesting the Corporation not to reintroduce power cut for High Tension (HT) consumers who consume less than 500 KW.
DAT president S. Nagarajan said that the requisition was sent to Tangedco chairman in the wake of news reports that power cuts were going to be reintroduced for HT consumers in general from October 1.
“The power cut can be avoided considering the fact that the weather forecast predicts commencement of winds from North-East directions from October as soon as the present winds coming from South-West direction ends. The North-East winds will help generate at least 1,000 to 1,500 MW of power. Besides this, power generation from plants situated in Kudankulam, Mettur, Vallur and North Chennai are going to commence commercial production,” he added.

DAT was of the opinion that if power cuts could not be avoided completely, then a 20 per cent cut could be introduced for consumers who utilised more than 500 KW and the system of 40 per cent power cut during peak hours (6 p.m. to 10 p.m.) for the HT consumers who consumed less than 500 KW could be continued.
