Dog show begins in Ooty

All roads in this hill station on Friday led to the Government Arts College grounds where the three-day dog show of the South of India Kennel Club (SIKC) got underway.

One of the most looked forward to events of the Summer season here, the show began with ‘obedience trials'.

Added attractions this year were the 13th Speciality Show of the German Shepherd Dog (GSD) Club of India, Coimbatore chapter, and a Golden Retriever Speciality Show.

Speaking to

The Hindu , the president, SIKC, D. Krishnamurthy and secretary Nagina said that in the obedience tests 17 dogs including Doberman, Rajapalayam, Labrador and German Shepherd Dog participated. The dogs were from Erode, Salem, Chennai, Coimbatore, Mumbai and Secunderabad and among them were members of police dog squads.

In the GSD Speciality Show, 110 dogs from various parts of the country including Chennai, Bangalore, Mysore, Kolkata, Kolhapur and Haryana had taken part.

It was judged by Imran Husain from Pakistan. The obedience tests were judged by Rajender Salvi from Mumbai and Sally B from Switzerland was the judge at the Golden Retriever show. When asked about the All Breeds Show which would be held on Saturday and Sunday, the organisers said that out of 450 entries 425 had turned up.
