DMK functionaries arrested

The city police arrested six Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) functionaries on Wednesday night and are on the look out for former Coimbatore Corporation Deputy Mayor N. Karthik for allegedly distributing printed materials criticising former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa that reportedly created unrest in the city three days ago. The DMK men were also booked for allegedly picking a quarrel with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) cadre in a dispute in connection with the distribution. The Race Course police registered a case based on a complaint lodged by AIADMK functionary Singai Renganathan. Police charged the accused of damaging a portion of the AIADMK party office at Pazhayur on Monday. The arrested persons were identified as R. Manikandan, V. Ravichandran, S. Somu alias Somasundaram, A. Padmanaban, G. Raja and R. Anandhan. They were lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.
