Engineering seems to the favourite among the toppers in the Class X board examination in Coimbatore district.

The results were announced on Friday with three students scoring 496, which was the State third highest mark and district highest for students with Tamil as first language.

For C.R. Janani, a student of S.B.O.A. Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Chokkampudur, the sky seems to be the limit, literally for she aims to be an aerospace engineer and wants to work for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States.

Janani, who wants to take computer science group in Standard XI, intends to pursue a degree in the Aerospace Engineering discipline and has already begun the ground work on which colleges offer this course. Besides centums in mathematics, science and social science, she got 99 marks in English and 97 in Tamil.

For R. Kausalya, keeping the options open seems to be high on her mind. Although she is leaning towards engineering, she is going to opt for bio-mathematics group in Class XI, which will enable her to pursue careers in agriculture, engineering and medicine.

Her aim is to become an IAS officer, she adds. Besides centums in mathematics, science and social science, she got 99 marks in English and 97 in Tamil.

S.P. Priya Dharshini of SVGV Matriculation Higher Secondary School, is the exception to the rule as she is planning a career in medicine and plans to take the biology group.

Besides centum in mathematics and social science, she got 99 in science and Tamil besides 98 in English.

Non-Tamil category

S. Lakshmi, a student of Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School who secured 496 marks is the district topper in the non-Tamil students’ category and also the State third rank in French with 99 marks. She got centum in mathematics and social science, besides 99 in science and 98 in English.

While she is planning to opt for computer science group in Class XI, she says engineering is her eventual aim, although she is yet to zero in on any branch.

Apart from an affinity for engineering, another common denominator among these toppers from various schools was their dislike for tuitions. S. Priyadarshini of National Model School was the State second rank holder in Hindi with 99 marks.
