Deer rescued from well, released into forest

Forest officials releasing the five-year-old spotted deer that was rescued from Sirumugai forest range on Tuesday.

Forest officials on Tuesday rescued and released a male spotted deer that fell into a well in human habitation.

The deer, aged around five, was released into the wild near Pethikuttai in Sirumugai forest range on Tuesday evening. Forest officials said that the deer had fallen into a 20-feet deep well in human habitation at Sambaravalli on Monday night. The animal fell into the open well when reportedly chased by a dog. The well had around four feet of water.

Residents of the locality informed forest officials about the animal after finding it in the well on Tuesday morning.

The deer was taken out by a forest team and given first aid.

One of its legs had a minor injury after falling into the well from height. Sirumugai range officer E.N. Manoharan said that the deer was taken to Pethikuttai in Sirumugai forest range and released on Tuesday evening. The animal was released after assessing its health condition.

According to officials, deer and wild boars often stray to Sambaravalli and other villages in search of fodder and water.
